Pre-Travel Checklist: Things To Buy

 I always seem to need to pick up a few essentials before we leave.  For example, the kids are constantly growing & I’ve needed to buy bigger swimsuits & flipflops nearly every vacation!

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https://livinglifeasmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Pre-Travel-Shopping-List.jpg” align_tablet=”center” align_phone=”” align_last_edited=”on|desktop” _builder_version=”3.24.1″ border_radii=”on|40px|40px|40px|40px”][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”3.25″][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”3.25″ custom_padding=”|||” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.27.4″ text_font=”Georgia||||||||” text_text_color=”#000000″ text_font_size=”22px” text_line_height=”1.6em” header_font=”Georgia||||||||” header_2_font=”Georgia||||||||” header_2_font_size=”30px” header_2_line_height=”1.7em” header_3_font=”Georgia||||||||” min_height=”365px”]

The list is in 2 parts.  It’s the most helpful for me, since I get all of my shopping done either online or on one specific day of the week.

I can just bring this list with me and it is color-coded by store.  It’s very easy to see what I need to buy per store.

It’s easier if you see it in action, so here is mine.  I am starting to fill it out for our road trip to Disney in 2 weeks!!

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.27.4″ text_font=”Georgia||||||||” text_text_color=”#000000″ text_font_size=”22px” text_line_height=”1.6em” header_font=”Georgia||||||||” header_2_font=”Georgia||||||||” header_2_font_size=”30px” header_2_line_height=”1.7em” header_3_font=”Georgia||||||||” min_height=”101px” custom_margin=”-68px|||||” custom_padding=”||0px|||”]

Basically, I make a list of each item to buy, plus the name of the store I get it from:

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https://livinglifeasmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Printable-Shopping-List.jpg” align_tablet=”center” align_phone=”” align_last_edited=”on|desktop” _builder_version=”3.24.1″ border_radii=”on|40px|40px|40px|40px”][/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.27.4″ text_font=”Georgia||||||||” text_text_color=”#000000″ text_font_size=”22px” text_line_height=”1.6em” header_font=”Georgia||||||||” header_2_font=”Georgia||||||||” header_2_font_size=”30px” header_2_line_height=”1.7em” header_3_font=”Georgia||||||||”]

Then at the bottom I assign a color to each store with some highlighters:

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https://livinglifeasmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Printable-Shopping-List-Color-Coded.jpg” align_tablet=”center” align_phone=”” align_last_edited=”on|desktop” _builder_version=”3.24.1″ border_radii=”on|40px|40px|40px|40px”][/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.27.4″ text_font=”Georgia||||||||” text_text_color=”#000000″ text_font_size=”22px” text_line_height=”1.6em” header_font=”Georgia||||||||” header_2_font=”Georgia||||||||” header_2_font_size=”30px” header_2_line_height=”1.7em” header_3_font=”Georgia||||||||”]

Then I go back to my shopping list and highlight the items according to each store’s color:

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https://livinglifeasmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Printable-Shoppig-List-by-Color.jpg” align_tablet=”center” align_phone=”” align_last_edited=”on|desktop” _builder_version=”3.24.1″ border_radii=”on|40px|40px|40px|40px”][/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.27.4″ text_font=”Georgia||||||||” text_text_color=”#000000″ text_font_size=”22px” text_line_height=”1.6em” header_font=”Georgia||||||||” header_2_font=”Georgia||||||||” header_2_font_size=”30px” header_2_line_height=”1.7em” header_3_font=”Georgia||||||||”]

Now it’s SUPER easy for me to bring just one list with me, instead of a list for each store.  When I’m in Sephora for example, I will buy all the BLUE items!

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.27.4″ text_font=”Georgia||||||||” text_text_color=”#000000″ text_font_size=”22px” text_line_height=”1.6em” header_font=”Georgia||||||||” header_2_font=”Georgia||||||||” header_2_font_size=”30px” header_2_line_height=”1.7em” header_3_font=”Georgia||||||||”]

Pre-Trip Checklist: Reminders for Before You Leave!

I love to tape this sheet to my inside front door, or even right onto my luggage!

I’ve also made room for any more reminders you may need!

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https://livinglifeasmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Pre-Travel-Reminders-List.jpg” align_tablet=”center” align_phone=”” align_last_edited=”on|desktop” _builder_version=”3.24.1″ border_radii=”on|40px|40px|40px|40px”][/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.4.8″ text_font=”Georgia||||||||” text_text_color=”#000000″ text_font_size=”22px” text_line_height=”1.6em” ul_font=”||||||||” ul_line_height=”1.7em” header_font=”Georgia||||||||” header_2_font=”Georgia||||||||” header_2_font_size=”30px” header_2_line_height=”1.7em” header_3_font=”Georgia||||||||” hover_enabled=”0″]

Here Are Some Packing Tips:

  • Check the weather – both for where you are coming from and where you are going.
  • Lay out a comfy travel outfit, with an additional layer/sweater!  What you wear for the trip there, you can probably wear for the trip back.
  • If you love using the gym make sure you have workout clothes, PLUS a little bit of detergent.  You’ll want to hand-wash the stuff and hang dry in the room.  Used gym clothes smell terrible!
  • Pack for the kids.  Make sure to have plastic bags to wrap used diapers in & try to dispose of them outside of your room. You’ll realize very quickly that hotel room ventilation is pretty much non-existent.
  • Walkie Talkies!! If you are taking a cruise or are in a hotel and dont want to carry your phones around, these Motorola Talkabout walkie talkies are AMAZING!!

Motorola Walkie Talkies for TravelTravel Motorola walkie talkies

You can get them (around $29 for a 2-pack) from Amazon here.  They also come in 4-packs on Amazon.

I love them, they work up to 16 MILES!  They come in packs of 2, just get enough for each family member.

  • Call ahead to see if your hotel has toiletries or things to purchase when you get there.  This way you may not have to pack them.
  • Do some research online to find out whether it is safe to travel away from your hotel to shop, if you have to do so.
  • Always bring extra underwear, especially for kids.  You just straight-up never know.  There is no such thing as too much underwear.
  • Make sure to use my Pre-Trip Checklist!  Tape it to your luggage.  Did you remember your phone?  Charger?  Photo ID?  Tickets?  Meds?  Anything else needed?
  • Check out this awesome video from Apartment Therapy on how to “Marie Kondo” your luggage:

  • Bring one plastic garbage bag.  Use it to separate the clean clothes from the dirty clothes & shoes on the return trip.
  • Put shoes in bags or use shower caps.  Always take the shower caps with you when you leave the hotels!  Or, you can get cheap disposable shoe covers here on Amazon.  You get 50 pairs for 9 bucks.  The box will last for years, just toss when you’re done!
  • Take full advantage of your airplane’s carry-on policy!  I like to pack an extra tote bag or two.  This way I definitely have enough room for souvenirs coming back.
  • Make sure you have a cross-body or belt purse, for safety!  Hold your valuables close to you.
