There’s nothing better than sitting around on the 4th of July and celebrating with all your family and friends. And while many people tend to put their focus on all the fireworks and everything else going on around them, others tend to have their eye on the food table as well.

This is why these Patriotic Pretzels Sticks are really fun and a must to make. Not only do they kinda, sorta resemble a sparkler in their own right, but they are mess-free an easy to grab.

One other really cool aspect of these red, white and blue desserts is that they’re family-friendly to make as well. Gather up all your family members and let everyone create their own.

You could even create a fun game or contest to see who can make theirs the most creative! And then…the best part? Being able to eat it after you’re done!

All you need are a few simple ingredients to get started. Once you made these red, white, and blue pretzels once, you’re going to want to make them over and over again!

These treats are fun to make with your family and they’re always fun to eat. I love that they’re a great way to get together in the kitchen and cook as a family. The kids will love knowing that they can be independent and cook while also having the end result be a super sweet and crunchy treat.

Don’t worry about getting it perfect when you’re kids are cooking with you. Let them try, measure, cut and experiment.

This time that you spend with them in the kitchen will foster a love of cooking that will stay with them for life.

Now let’s go ahead and get started.

Make these ahead and store them in an airtight container so they’ll be ready for your big party. I like to make them up a bit beforehand so I’m not stressing out during the last minute. I keep them in an airtight container and store them in the fridge. This way, they stay fresh and crispy.

They’re perfect for any event and can tie in with your decor. I’ve made these for Memorial Day as well as the 4th of July. (and if you want to make them all the time, just change up the color of the sprinkles to match the current holiday that is happening or coming up!)

These are the easiest dessert idea, ever!

Ingredients

  • Pretzel rods
  • Blue candy melts
  • White candy melts or vanilla-flavored almond bark
  • Red candy melts
  • Variety of sprinkles (stars and silver sprinkling sugar), if desired

Instructions

Start by melting the candy coating according to package directions. Pay close attention here as you don't want to burn it. And if you overheat it too much, it will be too thick to use.  If that happens, you can add 2 teaspoons of vegetable shortening or coconut oil (only those 2 ingredients, period!) to help thin it back out.

Once melted, take and pour the candy coating over two-thirds of the pretzel rod. It might be a little messy, but just shake to gently remove the extra candy coating. If you're going to be applying sprinkles, do so immediately after adding and turn as you add to cover the pretzels on all sides.

Next, take and place the pretzel rod on waxed paper or on a cooling rack.

If dipping with additional colored candy melts to have a variety of colors on your pretzel rods, you need to allow the first round to harden first. Then, you can use a fork to drizzle candy coating evenly over the top.

Let your pretzel rods dry completely before serving.

To Make the Flag

Now, take and melt the blue candy coating in the same manner as the other colors. Then, dip the end of the white-coated pretzel into the melted blue candy. Next, you're going to want to immediately place star sprinkles while the candy is wet. You can add them using clean or sterilized tweezers or even a toothpick. Once done, set on wax paper.

Next, take and melt the red candy coating. Once it's melted, spoon it into a  piping bag or freezer bag with the corner snipped off. Take and squeeze out and add lines of red across the white field on the pretzels.

Let pretzel rods dry completely before eating!

Store in an airtight container at room temperature. If you do put them in the fridge, it may soften them.
