Use these adorable printable pet chores chart to keep track of their responsibilities.

While it can be all fun and exciting at first when a new puppy enters the home, you have to remind your kids that it’s also a lot of work.

Luckily, with older kids, they can become a huge help in your puppy training too.

My 9 year old was the main caretaker of our puppy, taking her out every hour for those first few days as she was getting used to being in our home.

For hairy cleanups, we have a Dyson Ball Animal 2 that can clean our furniture, carpets, and floors of hair but it also has a cool grooming attachment to brush your pet.

Kids of all ages can help with pet care, write down a list of everything your pet needs and see what jobs each child can help with.

Older kids can take the dog for a walk while younger kids can help brush and feed the dog.

We just got a new puppy, and it has been a ton of work as we work on house training the dog and teaching her not to bite on everything.

You don’t even know how long it took to get her use to the vacuum before she’d stop barking at it for this picture, LOL.

Because our puppy is not a fan of the vacuum, we didn’t attach the brush to it, but you can vacuum up the hair after you’ve brushed your pet.

Look at all the hair it collects after this short brushing session? If you let go of the handle it pushes all of the hair out for you to vacuum it up, otherwise it would all be on your floor or carpets ugh.

The Dyson Ball Animal 2 comes with several attachments including ones that make vacuuming the stairs and corners easier for easy pet cleanups. The vacuum easily cleans up carpet and floors, which is a blessing since I have both.

Have your child keep track of their pet care tasks with this chore chart. Fill it out with all the tasks they can do, laminate it and have them check off what they’ve completed for the day using a dry erase marker so they don’t miss anything.

Pet tasks can include:

  • Feeding
  • Water
  • Brushing
  • Walking
  • Playing
  • Training

Customize your own dog chore chart or cat chore chart to include age-appropriate tasks for your kids.

I would also put together a pet cleaning kit with paper towels, disinfectant and deodorizer to help kids clean up any messes from your dog so you’re not having to hunt it down when an accident happens.

Of course the best thing that your pets need is lots of love, and when your kids see how much love they can from their pet, they truly become a member of the family.
